What is “Counselling?”

Counselling is, essentially, your space.

Counselling is a safe, confidential space where you can work with a professional to talk about any issue or concern you would like to bring.

It is my job, as your counsellor, to help you explore thoughts, feelings, and your behaviours, so that you might develop a better understanding of yourself, and work toward your own therapeutic goals.

I do not:

  • Offer opinions or advice on situations

  • Prescribe medication

  • Set “homework”

Person-Centred Counselling

I trained specifically as a “Person-Centred” counsellor. This is one of several theoretical frameworks for talking therapies.

Person-Centred therapy comes with the foundational belief that all people can change, with the right support and circumstances. Each person has inherent worth, and as such deserves the opportunity for unconditional support in their journey to growth.

In this framework, you as the client decide where our session goes.

My role is to encourage you to share and explore thoughts and feelings, often through challenges or questions, to help you become more independent and self-aware.

Together, we use this relationship to work toward your therapeutic goals.
